When Paul was talking to the Corinth church, he spoke on their issues of “dividing” Jesus through their quarrels. And what was the topic of demand? “Christ Divided!” (obviously) :)
This is also a very detailed picture of what happens today. (No way! Are you serious?) :/
It’s what happens when us (the church [the body of Christ]), start to divide into factions, or better known as cliques. In the Corinthian church, some were saying, “I follow Paul”; others, “I follow Apollos”; another, “I follow Peter”, still another, “I follow Jesus”.
Now, because we have some many churches (congregations) & styles of worship today, we get caught up in the same game they did of, “my preacher is better than yours”.
Paul is trying to tell them, that divides Christ. But Christ is not divided and neither should His followers allow anything to divide them.
Is it okay to appreciate some teacher, preacher, or even a book author? Of course! To not do so would be in some sense, lack of gratitude. But we can’t let that appreciation for certain people lead us into intellectual pride. Our allegiance is to Christ. And if we take sides, let it be the side of unity that He desires.
God bless!
